Standard oil filter fitted to the 453 smart fortwo / smart forfour petrol models (not for smart 898cc turbo 90hp)

During engine operation, by-products of the combustion process such as soot and carbon escape into the engine oil. These abrasive particles can cause extensive damage to engine components if not removed efficiently. The oil filter is also responsible for retaining other damaging contaminants that can enter the engine through inneficient oil filler cap, engine breather and dip-stick seals.
